The transfer portal appears to be sending SEC players to Tallahassee. Mike Norvell’s Florida State program picked up its second SEC transfer of the night when former Auburn running back D.J. Williams announced he would be continuing his college football career at FSU.

Like former South Carolina DL Keir Thomas, it’s a return to the Sunshine State for Williams. Out of Sebring (Florida), Williams was rated 4-stars, the No. 21 running back, No. 40 recruit in the Sunshine State and No. 319 prospect overall nationally in the class of 2019 on the 247Sports Composite. He collected 19 other scholarship offers in the process, including Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Tennessee.

As a sophomore, Williams was fourth on the team in rushing production in 2020, generating 199 yards and 3 touchdowns on 38 carries. His average of 5.24 yards per carry was second on the team behind freshman standout Tank Bigsby (6.04). It was a reduction in touches for Williams after carrying the ball 84 times for 400 yards and 2 TDs in his freshman season.

The transfer to FSU reunites Williams with former Auburn offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham.
