Auburn at Florida is the marquee matchup of Week 6 of the 2019 college football season. Not only is it going to be a showdown between two undefeated top-10 teams, but it’s also Florida’s homecoming contest (with throwback uniforms) and the ESPN “College GameDay” game (as well as the CBS SEC showcase).

Before kickoffs at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, the PA boasts that “only Gators get out alive,” but ESPN’s Football Power Index is predicting that Auburn will leave The Swamp with a victory. With the FPI rankings updated after Week 5, ESPN’s matchup predictor is now giving Auburn a 53.2 percent chance to win.

The Tigers’ impressive 56-23 win over Mississippi State has given Gus Malzahn’s squad a significant boost in the metrics. Heading into Week 5, the FPI was giving Florida a 53.1 percent chance to win. In the newest FPI rankings, Auburn is No. 7 while Florida is No. 12, a move upward of two spots for the Tigers while the Gators stayed the same after a 38-0 win over FCS Towson.

ESPN’s FPI definition below:

The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily.
