Frank Thomas will be honored in a big way next month in Auburn, as the former slugger will have his statue unveiling ceremony outside of the main gates of Plainsman Park on Saturday, April 8 at 10 a.m. CT, Auburn announced on Wednesday.

That’s also Auburn’s A-Day game and the same day as a home baseball game against Texas A&M.

Thomas is one of the all-time greats at Auburn, and was a 3-time All-SEC player and a consensus All-American as a junior. He led the SEC in hitting in back-to-back years in 1988 and 1989. In 1987 he also led the SEC in home runs, and played tight end on the Auburn football team.

Thomas went on to be a star with the Chicago White Sox after he was the 7th-overall pick in the 1989 MLB Draft. With the White Sox, Thomas was a two-time MVP and 5-time All-star. He also won 4 Silver Slugger Awards and was the American League batting champion in 1997.

Auburn previously teased the statue on social media.
