The Auburn Tigers are 4-0 and have two huge victories this season, winning against Oregon and Texas A&M.

As they prepare for another tough test against Mississippi State on Saturday, coach Gus Malzahn’s squad is getting a lot of praise.

On Saturday’s episode of College GameDay, hosts Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard had a lot of nice things to say about Malzahn and the Tigers.

“I think Gus Malzahn deserves a lot of credit,” Herbstreit said. “He’s a head coach, but he’s gone back to playcalling for the first time in four years. And he’s doing a very good job of putting his pride to the side with a true freshman quarterback, and he’s calling a complimentary football game. He’s putting his team in a position to win games. He’s throwing high percentage throws with Bo Nix. Each week Bo Nix is going to become more of a weapon. Right now, Gus is doing a good job managing where he is with that defense.”

Howard was also complimentary of Malzahn, but says the Tiger offense still has a long way to go to make this an elite team:

“The offense right now is No. 9 in the conference in total offense. So, they’re going to have to find more offense as the season progressed. They’ll win today, because the defense is outstanding.”

Games against Florida, LSU, Georgia and Alabama still loom large for the Tigers, so we’ll learn a lot about Malzahn’s offense and the Auburn defense.
