There were a ton of awesome plays and performers this weekend.
However, there were some boneheaded plays as well.
I had a difficult time coming up with one specific play because two plays cost a team a game. LSU’s kicker had a major boneheaded play by kicking the ball out of bounds after hitting the go-ahead field goal.
That was pretty bad. However, there isn’t a more glaring boneheaded play than Auburn center Reese Dismukes’ miscommunication with Nick Marshall that led to a bad snap and fumble. I had to choose this one as the biggest boneheaded play.
It’s a really hard way to lose the game and more than likely knock yourself out of the College Football Playoff.
Things like that happen all too often and it is a very difficult situation to explain. I understand that miscommunication happens between the quarterback and center, but it just can’t happen when the game is on the line and when you’re playing in your own back yard.
If you watch his interview after the game you can see how pissed off he is about it and I can’t blame him. Auburn has had some very fortunate breaks the last two years and I can only imagine how much this loss hurts.
I can assure you of one thing, this center-quarterback exchange issue will not happen again this year. You can guarantee that coach Gus Malzahn will spend a little more time in practice this week working on the communication and the exchange.
