Gene Chizik didn’t see this one coming.

It’s been 10 years since Chizik, Gus Malzahn and Cam Newton helped lead Auburn to the 2010 BCS National Championship title and the school has decided to honor the championship team this weekend on The Plains with the Tigers set to host LSU on Saturday.

Chizik, now a studio analyst for the SEC Network, arrived early for the celebration weekend and was treated to a nice surprise outside of Jordan-Hare Stadium.

In the video below, Auburn reveals to Chizik that he has now has a banner that will hang outside the stadium.

“Coach Chizik, his leadership that year, winning the national championship, he’s a great coach, great person,” Malzahn said. “I’m just happy for him. We’ve been working on this a long time, glad it came into reality today.”

Auburn beat Oregon 22-19 in the 2011 BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 10, 2011, in Arizona to claim the national title. That championship was the first for the Auburn program in 53 years.
