Bo Nix’s decision to leave Auburn after his junior season continues to create plenty of discussion among college football analysts and fans.

On Monday’s edition of the “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” radio show, Greg McElroy and Cole Cubelic offered their thoughts on why this was a curious decision from Nix.

“I cat say it’s really that surprising,” McElroy said. “I’m just more surprised that he didn’t see the forest through the trees. I thought he had his best year in an Auburn Tiger uniform and showed progress this year and did some good things.

“So I guess I’m just having a hard time understanding why he didn’t want to continue that growth with the staff that he was with. I know Mike Bobo won’t be back. But it’s okay, they’re going to find a quality coordinator that would help his development.”

McElroy then deferred to Cubelic, a former Auburn player, for his thoughts on the decision.

“Well, I think you see who finished the season, and as we know life does not contain many guarantees,” Cubelic said. “I think obviously the coordinator move was one that was a little bit frustrating. But as he said, his situation, his personal deal, so he wants to try something else. And I guess he’ll get a shot at it. My biggest question is where does he think he’s going to end up?”

Cubelic added that he’s not sure the types of opportunities that Nix will be looking for will be readily available.

“I don’t know how many spots are going to be out there where you’re going to guaranteed to move in and be the starter that are going to be a better situation to be able to play the kind of competition, be able to play on the kind of stage, and be able to accomplish the kind of things like you would at Auburn,” Cubelic said.
