Auburn’s hiring of Hugh Freeze has been met publicly with criticism and some ridicule, but SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey is ready to move forward after a phone conversation with Freeze according to Seth Emerson of The Athletic.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said he had a "very positive" phone call with Hugh Freeze this morning.
"I look from this point forward. We're informed from someone's past. … I'm confident there's been plenty of opportunities for learning over the years."

Freeze is coming off of a 34-15 run over four years at Liberty. Freeze led the Flames to 10 wins and a top 20 finish in 2020, and eight wins in the other three seasons including an 8-4 record in 2022 that included a win on the road against Arkansas, but losses to UConn, Virginia Tech and New Mexico State to close out the season.
He was previously head coach at Ole Miss, where the Rebels went 10-3 with a Sugar Bowl win in 2015, but had to vacate 33 other wins because of NCAA violations with academics and recruiting.
