During Tuesday’s press conference, Gus Malzahn announced quarterback Sean White will start Saturday against Mississippi State.

The redshirt freshman from Boca Raton, Florida, gets the nod over Jeremy Johnson, and Saturday will mark White’s first collegiate snap. Johnson, on the other hand, leads the SEC with six interceptions in three games, and the preseason Heisman hopeful didn’t get off the start everyone anticipated.

“Any time you change quarterbacks, it’s not an easy decision,” Gus Malzahn said, via AL.com. “I feel like he needs a shot right now.”

“He’s our starting quarterback going into this game. We’ll get behind him and I know his teammates will also. He’s a talented young guy. We’re excited to see what he can do.”

The Tigers lost to LSU Saturday 45-21, but things don’t get much easier this week against Mississippi State and Dak Prescott.

White passed for 2,679 yards and 30 touchdowns during his senior year of high school.
