Auburn coach Gus Malzahn is trying to put a lid on wideout Duke Williams’ social media revelations.

One of the SEC’s top returning pass-catchers posted four tweets last week alluding to a possible exit from Auburn prior to his senior season this fall. Something triggered Williams’ emotional comments, but the series of tweets were quickly erased.

According to Brandon Marcello of AL.com, one of Williams’ posts that followed a ‘#NewBeginning’ introductory tweet questioned his future with the Tigers.

“Ion (sic) think This where I wanna be,” Williams tweeted. “Have to see what my options is (sic) after my last exam.”

Malzahn responded to Williams’ choice of words on Monday.

“Kids are going to be kids,” Malzahn said at the Northwest Alabama Regional Airport in Muscle Shoals according to AL.com. “We’ve got to do a better job with what we tweet out.

“As a head coach I’m aware of everything as far that goes. Like I said we have to do a better job in the future.”

Auburn wide receivers coach Dameyune Craig tried to smooth over Williams’ Twitter admissions on May 7 when he posted a photo of himself and his No. 1 with the caption ‘Everything Gucci!’ sitting on a couch in the coaches office.

Despite being suspended for the Outback Bowl in January and missing two other games with a knee injury last fall, Williams finished with 730 yards receiving and five touchdowns to lead his position group. The JUCO transfer is considered a Day 1 selection in next year’s NFL draft if his career continues on its upward slope.
