In arguably the wildest game of the season in the SEC, Auburn beat the odds and defeated Alabama 48-45 on Saturday down on The Plains.

The back and forth contest featured two pick six interceptions, a return touchdown, a 48-point second quarter and some outstanding individual performances by players on both sides of the game.

Immediately after the game clock hit double zero on The Plains, Gus Malzahn was asked to share his comments on the wild contest.

“We played a great game, we faced adversity,” Malzahn said. “We said if we get to the fourth quarter, they’ll do that and we’ll win the game. We got the fourth quarter, I’m proud of our team. This is a good football team.”

Malzahn was then asked what gave him confidence that his team could play well enough in the end to win this game.

“Because of history — 2013, 2017. It repeats itself in the fourth quarter. We found a way to win, they made mistakes,” Malzahn answered.

Freshman quarterback Bo Nix had one of his better performances in SEC play on Saturday as the signal-caller threw for 173 yards and a touchdown and added another 44 rushing yards and a score on the ground.

Malzhan could not have been more pleased with Nix’s performance after the game.

“He’s a winner, he’s going to win a championship before he gets out of here,” Malzahn noted. “The rest of our team, defense, two great touchdowns. Found a way to win, it was a great team effort.”

Auburn finishes the regular season with a 9-3 record and will await to find out which bowl game they will participate in.
