After being off in Week 7, Auburn is heading into the second half of its 2019 season starting with the Arkansas game on Saturday.

In the first half of the season, true freshman QB Bo Nix led the Tigers to a 5-1 start. Nix beat out Joey Gatewood before the season opener to win the starting quarterback job, but Malzahn often managed to get Gatewood into the game. It’s a move that SEC Network analyst Tim Tebow praised ahead of the Florida game. The lack of Gatewood against the Gators had Malzahn having to explain his decision.

Judging by Thursday night’s “Tiger Talk,” we can expect to see more Gatewood in the second half of the season.

“I think he’ll be bigger in the second half of the season than he was in the first,” Malzahn said.

Auburn will be looking for ball-carriers to step up in the absence of top running back Boobee Whitlow, which could present more opportunities for Gatewood.

In five games, Gatewood has run the ball 22 times for 122 yards and 3 touchdowns. He’s also 4-of-5 passing for 37 yards and a TD.
