The Auburn Tigers have a big hole to fill at the quarterback position in 2019, as 2018 starter Jarrett Stidham is off to the 2019 NFL Draft.

The competition is between Malik Willis, Cord Sandberg, Joey Gatewood and Bo Nix, but no decisions have been made as spring practices kick off.

On Monday, coach Gus Malzahn explained where the Tigers are right now, saying all of those guys will get equal reps to start off with this spring.

“Our quarterbacks — we’re going to start out spring rotating all four guys equally, at least starting out,” he said, via a release from the school. “We’ll see where that goes — no timetable on narrowing things down or naming starters. We’re going to let those guys compete. It’s an open position. We’re looking forward to watching that competition.”

Willis has the most experience with the Tiger offense, having served as Stidham’s backup last fall. However, there’s a lot of buzz around redshirt freshman Gatewood and true freshman Nix.

This is probably one of the most-interesting position battles in all of the SEC, so we’ll see who emerges from the competition before Week 1.
