Highlights from Gus Malzahn’s post-game presser following the 19-13 loss to Clemson at home:

Auburn’s defense did a very good job in slowing Heisman Trophy hopeful Deshaun Watson — holding him to 248 yards passing and only 21 yards rushing on 11 carries. Malzahn was very pleased by the defensive effort:

“Very proud of our defense, that’s one of the best offenses in college football. Holding those guys to 19 points I thought was really unbelievable — as far as the effort and everything.”

Malzahn played all three quarterbacks on Saturday evening. It appeared as if this was the plan entering the contest. At some point, one has to wonder whether he’ll eventually narrow it down to one option.

Offensively, Malzahn admits there’s plenty to work on.

“Offensively, it was a big struggle. Second half starting moving the football, the biggest issue was the two times in the red zone that we didn’t score — the one time on the 4th and short and then the one that 4th and 10 that could have helped. Bottom line is I’m proud of this time and I’m encouraged.”
