Gus Malzahn after Auburn's comeback win over Oregon: 'I think we are one of the best teams in the country'
Thanks to a total team effort, Auburn found a way to claw back against Oregon and eventual stun the Ducks in a 27-21 thriller Saturday night from Arlington’s AT&T Stadium.
The game was ultimately won when Bo Nix hit receiver Seth Williams on a 26-yard pass with only nine seconds remaining in the game. Until that point, Oregon held the lead in the contest dating back to the 10:13 mark in the first quarter. Auburn had not held the lead in the game until nine seconds remained in the game.
Immediately after the game, Malzahn shared his thoughts on the epic season-opening contest.
“We didn’t play our best, you have to give them credit, they are a really good team,” Malzahn said from the field. “We came out with a hot start, turned the ball over, we didn’t play our best but we found a way to win. I’m real proud of this group, I think you’ll see that team win a bunch of game and I think we are one of the best teams in the country.”
Malzahn was asked about his team’s incredible comeback performance.
“We got a lot of character, we got a lot of guts, a lot of leadership. Halftime, it was kind of tough but we just believed we were going to win the game. Our defense came up big, of course our offense, we struggled a little bit but when it mattered, Seth Williams made the play to win the game.”
I agree. They are hands down the best perennial 8-5 team in the nation. Maybe they’ll shock the world and go 9-4…
Great game.
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! WTF is he on?!? Oregon gave that game away!! Get real idiot!
You must be as stupid as whoever wrote this article. Completely misquoted. He said Oregon is one of the best teams in the country. Watch the interview, idiot. Oh yeah, we are talking about a Bama fan here who most likely has never stepped on a college campus before but still says, “we.”
Makes more sense. That’s not usual Gus speak. He doesn’t openly brag like that.
Nice game, Auburn. That’s a win to remember years later. Nice way to start out the Bo Nix era.
This shows the difference in A&M fans and Tide fans (or at least many of them, NCDaveRTR being an exception). A&M fans are some of the best anywhere and a visit to College Station is always a wonderful experience because of their hospitality.
Don’t be pissed bc auburn beat Oregon. I mean we all can’t play duke. Who was once on a 20 game losing streak.
You’re right man. Make sure you’re you extend Gus’s contract while you’re at it. It might inspire him to go 9-4 this year!
It’s depends on how you define how many top teams in the country there are? If it’s 20, yes, you are Gus. If that means the top three or four? No. Not until your understandably underdeveloped QB matures significantly.
When I heard Gus say that, I thought he was referring to Oregon being one of the best teams in the country. Delusional or not, huge win for Auburn and way to represent the SEC when TN, SC, Missouri and FL didn’t look so hot.
STOP Gus!
He meant the Ducks.
Definitely misquoted.. he was talking about the Ducks
Shame on you for taking advantage of the gullibility of bammer fans and getting them all riled up. Gus did not say that AU was one of the best teams in the country after the game. He said Oregon was one of the best teams in the country. So now do you have the stones to go back and watch the tape and issue a retraction?
I won’t hold my breath…

Seems like Bratton hasn’t gotten over the RockyFlop yet. How hard is it to proofread a very short article?
