How Gus Malzahn impressed an elite 2019 4-star RB following loss to Tennessee
The Auburn Tigers lost at home to Tennessee on Saturday, sparking many fans to call for coach Gus Malzahn to be fired.
However, according to 4-star 2019 RB prospect Noah Cain, Malzahn didn’t seem to let that bother him on Sunday morning.
In fact, Cain said, during breakfast with Malzahn the next day, the coach kept a very positive attitude — something he admires (via AL.com):
“Everybody is going to be happy after a win, but you really get to see someone’s true colors after a loss,” Cain said. “He was real positive. He didn’t bash any of the players or any of the coaches. He said they have to get better and keep improving.”
Cain, the No. 6 running back in the 2019 class, per the 247Sports composite, said he appreciates a coach who can bounce back after a tough loss:
“It’s a brutal conference,” Cain said. “Losses happen.”
Still, Auburn may need to play a lot better this year for Malzahn to keep his job. If there’s any uncertainty, Cain may choose to go elsewhere.
