Hugh Freeze and Auburn are heating up at the right time.

The Tigers have won their last 3 games against Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Arkansas and now have plenty of positive momentum heading into the final 2 games of the season.

The winning streak is a positive sign for Auburn after a rough start to the season that included a 4-game losing skid. Freeze reached bowl eligibility in his first season and now has the chance to finish the year with an impressive record.

Freeze didn’t shy away from pointing to the win streak as a big deal.

“I think it’s huge,” Freeze said. “I think we will point back to it, and I think it’s something that if you look at the history of Auburn, the good teams are known for playing hard no matter what the records are, the circumstances are, because that’s what we want to be built on is how we compete. I said this week in my press conference, I really want one of our mentalities to be we’re either winning or learning, and handle every situation that we go through, whether it’s a losing streak, a winning streak, in those two categories.”

Freeze gave credit to the older players who stuck with Auburn through the rough patch and are now being rewarded with a positive end to their careers at Auburn.

“I think we’re going to owe a great debt of gratitude to those upperclassmen and leadership of the team that stayed the course with us even though we were struggling some,” Freeze said.

The head coach also believes that if he had the chance to play some tough games again, his team could come out with a win.

“Some had to do with the schedule setup,” Freeze said. “Obviously, we had two difficult road games at A&M and LSU, then two home games that we could have won either one of them with Georgia and Ole Miss. I wish we could play those over at home for sure because I think we’re playing better now. That thing could have gone a lot of different ways at that moment, so we owe a big debt of gratitude to our young men for staying engaged and going to work every day, turning things around and getting us to a bowl game.”

Auburn will take on New Mexico State this week before closing out the season against Alabama in Freeze’s first Iron Bowl.
