Hugh Freeze evaluates Payton Thorne, speaks to recent offensive surge
The Auburn Tigers took care of business against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, as the Tigers won, 48-10. With the win, the Tigers are now bowl-eligible after winning their third consecutive game.
It has been an up-and-down year for the Tigers, as they started out 3-0 before losing their first four SEC games. However, the team stayed the course and is now playing some good football. One of the players who is playing much better is quarterback Payton Thorne, who threw for 163 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Razorbacks.
After the game, coach Hugh Freeze talked about Thorne’s play recently.
“Yeah, I thought his ball-handling and patience and he was making them have to make decision,” Freeze said. “I thought he made really good decisions. I didn’t think he played a great second quarter in the passing game, but then he came back in the third quarter like he did in the first and played really well.”
With the improvement of Thorne, it is only going to make sense the Tigers offense is playing much better as of late.
“I think I have been pretty transparent that after the Ole Miss game I went and said, ‘This is what we are doing and nobody asks, this is what we are doing,” Freeze said. “Our offensive staff is like, ‘Let’s do it man, whatever you say coach let’s do it.’ We had a chance win a few other games, and I wish I had put my foot down earlier, but that’s probably the turning point.”
