Hugh Freeze met with reporters late Saturday night following Auburn’s thrilling overtime victory against Texas A&M.

Auburn was on the wrong end of a very controversial in double overtime. The Tigers would have had first and goal inside the 5-yard line after a big play, but the gain was instead wiped away due to an offensive pass interference call.

ESPN’s broadcast — as well as fans and media — were quick to criticize the call, as it did not appear the play should have been flagged for OPI. Here’s a replay:

While Auburn’s win certainly did a lot to take some sting out of the controversy, Freeze still admitted to some frustrations after the game when speaking with reporters.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever wanted to fight so bad,” Freeze said. “I really wanted to fight in that moment … I’ll have to watch it. It looked like on the screen that there was no contact, really, on the pick call. I’ll have to see it on film to be 100% sure.

“But it sure didn’t feel good. I was livid and not very happy.”

Auburn ended up having to settle for a field goal on that drive. However, the Tigers forced a field goal attempt from Texas A&M to extend the game to a third overtime.

Auburn will close out the 2024 season against Alabama next weekend.
