Hugh Freeze, during his Tiger Talk radio show on Thursday, shared how he helped get his Auburn players in the right frame of mind after having lost 4 games in a row earlier in the year.
The Tigers began the season 3-0 with wins against UMass, Cal, and Samford. As the difficulty of the schedule increased, though, things took a downward turn as they 1st lost on the road to Texas A&M, then at home to Georgia in a 7-point game, followed by a blowout loss to LSU in Death Valley and a close loss to Freeze’s former program, Ole Miss.
“We’re cleaning the slate,” Freeze said he told his players while reminding them that bowl eligibility was still in the picture. “I did put that out there … here’s what reality is.”
It seems to have worked, as the Tigers have won their last 2. They defeated Mississippi State 27-10 at home, then traveled to Vanderbilt and came away with a 31-15 victory.
Up next for the Tigers: Arkansas on Saturday in Fayetteville. A win puts Auburn back in the postseason after missing out in 2022, as a 9-season bowl streak came to an end. Kickoff between the Tigers and Razorbacks is set for 4 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
