Is Auburn in danger of losing both of its top assistant coaches?
Defensive coordinator Will Muschamp is gone. Now, offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee might be as well.
According to Scott Kushner of The Advocate, Lashlee is in consideration to become Tulane’s head coach along with Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich and Appalachian State head coach Scott Satterfield.
The Green Wave fired coach Curtis Johnson once the regular season was over. Johnson only won more than three games once in his four years on the job, going 2-10 in his first season before going 7-6 and reaching the New Orleans bowl in his second season. However, the program didn’t transition well after it joined the American Athletic Conference, going 3-9 in each of his last two seasons.
Lashlee, who’s only 32 years old, has spent a great deal of his young career working with Malzahn. Lashlee was a graduate assistant with him at Arkansas in 2006 and then again at Auburn in 2009 and 2010 while Malzahn was offensive coordinator. Later in 2012, he became Malzahn’s offensive coordinator at Arkansas State before following him to Auburn once he became head coach in 2013.
Lashlee was also reported Wednesday to be interviewing for the offensive coordinator job at Texas, but multiple reporters quickly refuted the report.
