The Auburn Tigers recently landed a commitment from former minor league baseball player Cord Sandberg, who will now play quarterback at the college level.

Sandberg was a former 4-star Mississippi State commit, but spent parts of the past six seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies’ organization.

As he embarks on his college career, he’ll sit behind star QB Jarrett Stidham this year, but the future is open for the talented athlete. According to OC Chip Lindsey, Sandberg is bringing some maturity to the Auburn QB room (via AL.com):

“He brings a really good presence to the quarterback room,” Lindsey said. “He’s an older, mature guy. He understands about preparation. He really wants to do well. He takes it really serious. You can tell he’s here focused on playing well and getting back in the flow.”

Stidham said Sandberg is an eager learner, picking his brain during practice for insight on the Auburn playbook:

“He’s asking me stuff all the time about this play or that play, and it’s just good to see him wanting to learn and wanting to get better and that sort of thing,” Stidham said. “So, I think as time progresses, he’s just going to get more and more comfortable.”

Again, Sandberg isn’t likely to play this season, but he still has plenty of time in his college career. He’ll learn a lot this year and then try for the starting job when Stidham eventually leaves Auburn.
