Jeremy Johnson inherited the Auburn starting quarterback job in 2015 with lofty expectations, and underwhelmed in almost every way imaginable.

But that doesn’t mean he’s ready to give up on being the Auburn QB in 2016, despite being locked into a three-way battle for playing time during spring practice.

Following Saturday’s spring game, Johnson faced some tough questions about his future with the program.

Johnson was asked about the possibility of graduating in May, and then transferring to a school of his choosing over the summer and become eligible to play immediately in the fall.

According to the Montgomery Advertiser’s transcript of the conversation, that’s not going to happen.

“Your job is to ask questions and do what you do,” Johnson said. “I’m going to be here. I’m going to stay here. I’m going to compete for the starting job, get my degree in December and go about my business.”

By answering that way, Johnson made it clear that he’s not eyeing a graduate transfer because he’s not planning to graduate until after the season.

He indicated he’s still very much engaged in the competition with Sean White and transfer John Franklin III, and that he expects to give Tigers fans a better look in 2016.

“It’s like I tell people all the time, life is about obstacles,” Johnson said. “I hadn’t been starting for three years. That was my first year starting. It happened. I have my confidence back and now I feel even better about where I’m at as a person and as a player because your character and how you handle things, take you a long way. I feel like I’m in a good spot.”

Now that we have that out of the way, we can expect to see Johnson involved in the battle through the summer and into fall camp.
