With a couple of the SEC’s top teams on a bye week this past Saturday, it was going to be harder for the conference to get a team onto Kirk Herbstreit’s list of the Top 5 performances from Week 5. But Auburn ensured a team from the SEC was represented on the list.

Herbstreit ranked the Tigers No. 5 out of 10 on his list of the best performances from this past week. According to the ESPN analyst, the only teams that were more impressive this past weekend were Ohio State, SMU, Washington and Duke.

In its first SEC home game of the year, Auburn knocked off Mississippi State, 56-23. Freshman quarterback Bo Nix dazzled in his first conference home start, throwing for 335 yards and two touchdowns on just 21 attempts. Nix has 980 passing yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions in five games this season.

Auburn has a tough slate ahead, as the Tigers will face two Top 10 teams in the next three weeks, but Auburn really has a chance to shake up the SEC if it continues to play well.

In November, the Tigers will also face Georgia and Alabama.
