A signee in last year’s class, Auburn defensive tackle Tashawn Manning has been engaged in a battle with leukemia.

The Florida native received the diagnosis last year on Thanksgiving Day. Head coach Gus Malzahn vowed to honor Manning’s scholarship offer — regardless of whether he’d ever play football again or not.

Fortunately, Manning’s cancer is in remission. He’s slated to enroll at Auburn on Jan. 7.

Before he fully immerses himself in college life, he was able to enjoy a week of leisure and relaxation with his family.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation sent Manning and his family on a week-long vacation to Hawaii. He spoke about the exciting trip to 247Sports:

“They came by to the house to sit and talk to me. They asked me what I wanted to do. At first, I had no idea. But after talking to my parents, I thought a trip to Hawaii would be pretty cool. It was something on my bucket list. They’ve done a whole lot for me on this trip. Most definitely, I would like to give back to them.”

With Manning ready to get back on the field, he will have plenty of fans and supporters all across the country.
