Malzahn: ‘Dancing with the Stars won’t ever want me’

By now, we’ve all seen the video of a young Gus Malzahn breakdancing.

Reporters asked Malzahn about the video during his weekly news conference on Tuesday. Malzahn said he didn’t believe the producers of a certain reality show would be calling.

“Yeah, I don’t think Dancing with the Stars will ever want me to participate after that,” Malzahn told reporters. “We were at Six Flags with the family, with my dad and girls and we kept walking by this lip synch booth. They kept messing with me and I didn’t want to do it, then finally I had enough so I went ahead and did it.”

Malzahn often gets jabbed for his very measured personality, but keeping the video was his way of showing players his lighter side.

“I kept it and when I was coaching high school football at the end of the year I’d always bring my seniors over and I’d show it to them so they’d know I was a real person.

“I think I was 26-years-old or 27-years-old. I was a little more limber back then. I’d probably hurt myself if I did that now.”

What’s even more of a feat than Malzahn’s dancing ability is that the video stayed hidden for so long after he burst onto the national scene as Auburn’s offensive coordinator from 2009-2011.

When asked his thoughts about the video popping up, Malzahn admitted his mind’s been on other things.

“I’ve been trying to gameplan for Texas A&M,” Malzahn said. “I knew it’d be a little embarrassing because I’m not a very good dancer, but oh well.”
