Paul Finebaum questions Hugh Freeze’s demeanor: ‘At least act like you want the job’
Paul Finebaum has never been one to mince words.
The veteran ESPN analyst always speaks his mind, and that trend continued when Finebaum joined Greg McElroy on Always College Football.
When asked about Auburn’s struggles, Finebaum questioned whether Hugh Freeze even wants to be the head coach at Auburn.
“His demeanor isn’t great either,” Finebaum said of Freeze. “I mean, I’ve been around Hugh Freeze once or twice down there, and he doesn’t really look like he wants to be there. I know that sounds like a bold statement, but I mean, there’s something going on with him.
“At least act like you want the job. Show some emotion. That’s my impression of being around Hugh Freeze.”

Freeze’s Tigers suffered an embarrassing home loss to the Cal Golden Bears in Week 2, adding scrutiny to the veteran coach.
Since taking over at Auburn before the 2023 season, Freeze has accumulated a 7-8 record. The 1-1 record to start 2024 is disappointing considering the Tigers have a brutal stretch of SEC games upcoming. Before taking over at Auburn, Freeze was the head coach at Arkansas State, Ole Miss, and Liberty.
In Week 3, the Tigers will look to get back on track with a home game against lowly New Mexico. Beginning in Week 4, the Tigers will have 6 consecutive conference games including matchups against No. 15 Oklahoma, No. 1 Georgia, and No. 6 Missouri.
