Paul Finebaum shared his thoughts on Auburn’s 14-10 victory at Cal in Week 2 during a Monday appearance on McElroy and Cubelic In The Morning.

Auburn took the lead for good on a 5-yard touchdown from quarterback Payton Thorne to Rivaldo Fairweather with 6:31 to go.

Auburn won the contest despite collecting just 230 total yards, tallying 4 turnovers, and going 4-for-12 on 3rd down efficiency.

The ESPN personality has some specific advice for Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze after the gritty victory on the West Coast.

“I would burn the game film. I wouldn’t look at that if I were Hugh Freeze. I would forget that experience,” Finebaum said. “I think a lot of things factored into it. Mainly, flying highway across the world and playing at a weird time.”

Despite the sloppiness, Finebaum believes Auburn should take pride in the road victory.

“That was a big win I thought for Auburn…This is a program that has not had many big wins in the last couple years,” Finebaum said. “As ugly as it was, as many records as Auburn broke for offensive ineptitude, it really doesn’t matter. They still have everything in front of them and that’s my takeaway.”

Auburn will aim for a 3-0 start in Freeze’s first season when they host Samford on Sept. 16 (7 p.m. EST/ESPN+).
