Paul Finebaum called out AJ McCarron for his refuted report on Bryan Harsin’s job security at Auburn.

McCarron reported that Auburn already made Harsin aware that he would lose his job at the end of the season. Conflicting reports have surfaced that placed doubt on McCarron’s belief that Auburn already made a decision on Harsin’s future.

Finebaum made an appearance on Sports Radio 105.5 WNSP and talked to Mark Heim about the inaccurate report. Finebaum took a jab at McCarron’s recent record against Auburn (via AL.com):

“AJ has fumbled this one terribly,” Finebaum said to Heim. “He’s now 0-2 in his last two encounters with Auburn.”

Alabama and McCarron’s 2013 loss to Auburn was referenced by Finebaum. He pointed out how this latest report was another loss to Auburn for McCarron. In McCarron’s report, he said that Auburn broke the news to Harsin after the Penn State loss.

Auburn holds a 3-1 record heading into Week 5 and the Penn State loss was the only loss of the season. Harsin is in his 2nd season as Auburn’s head coach and there has been pressure on his job since the end of last season. In 2021, Harsin finished his 1st season as the program’s head coach with a 6-7 record.

Harsin has an important SEC game coming up against LSU on Saturday.
