The offseason assistant coaching carousel left Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn with a role to fill on his staff. After defensive backs coach Marcus Woodson left for Florida State, the Tigers were without a recruiting coordinator. It appears Malzahn has found Woodson’s replacement.

Brandon Marcello of Auburn Undercover is reporting that linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator Travis Williams will be AU’s recruiting coordinator. Marcello notes that Williams is likely to see a bump in salary with the extra responsibility. He made $450,000 last season.

A former Auburn linebacker, Williams has been in coaching since 2008. After a season at Spring Valley High School in South Carolina, Williams first joined the Auburn staff in 2009. He remained at AU through 2011. He coached at Northern Iowa in 2012 and Creekside High School in Georgia in 2013 before returning to Auburn in 2014 as a defensive analyst. Williams was promoted to linebackers coach ahead of the 2016 season and added the co-defensive coordinator title last year.

Auburn’s 2020 recruiting class ranked No. 7 nationally on the 247Sports Composite. The Tigers are only three commitments in for the 2021 class, which currently ranks No. 18 nationally and No. 4 in the SEC. With more than nine full months until December’s Early Signing Period and just under a year away from National Signing Day, a lot will change in the 2021 rankings.
