Christmas has come early for the Auburn Tigers football program.

As announced on his Twitter page, 5-star QB transfer Jarrett Stidham has committed to Auburn.

Auburn has been long pursuing the Baylor transfer. Head coach Gus Malzahn has prioritized Stidham to the point that he’s arguably the most important recruit within this entire cycle for the Tigers. 247Sports has Stidham as the No. 1 dual-threat JUCO QB in the country — as well as the No. 1 JUCO player regardless of position.

Stidham left Baylor after one season following the firing of then-head coach Art Briles and the program-wide scandal involving sexual assault.

From a talent standpoint, there’s no denying the Texas native’s ability. He can make throws to all parts of the field, he’s gifted athletically in terms of running when need be, and he’s an incredibly dedicated, hard worker off the field.

Auburn has been beset by inconsistency at the quarterback position. Landing Stidham will likely go a long way towards assuaging any of those concerns.

He likely will be the best passing quarterback to play at Auburn since Cam Newton won the Heisman Trophy in 2010. As such, Stidham may be able to add some different elements within Malzahn’s scheme.

Without question, this is a huge pickup — and one which could potentially change the trajectory of the program’s future for the next few years.
