TJ Finley didn’t exactly win over many Auburn fans during Tuesday’s 17-13 Birmingham Bowl loss to Houston.

In fact, many fans are concerned about the Tigers looking ahead to the 2022 season, and most of that revolves around the offense and the quarterback position.

Following Bo Nix’s decision to transfer to Oregon, Finley finished just 19-of-37 (51.3 percent) for 227 yards and 1 touchdown against the Cougars defense. Often, Finley’s passes were too high and too far for his receivers, which led to many overthrows and missed opportunities.

Following the disappointing loss to the Cougars, Finley released the following message on his Instagram page.

Looking ahead to 2022, Auburn has to get much better, and that starts at quarterback. If Finley isn’t the guy, then who is? Auburn signed 4-star Dematrius Davis during the class of 2021, and he could push Finley for the job in 2022. Auburn may also have to reach into the NCAA Transfer Portal to land additional quarterback depth.

Regardless, Bryan Harsin has his work cut out for him during spring practice. Developing the roster and offensive players not named Tank Bigsby and Jarquez Hunter is paramount for an improved 2022 season.
