Tom Hart, the ESPN play-by-play voice, has seen Auburn baseball enough this season to understand what the Tigers need to do on Monday night against Oregon State in Game 3. A berth in the College World Series is on the line after Auburn won Game 1, and Oregon responded in Game 2 on Sunday night.

No. 14 Auburn brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning on Sunday night, but No. 3 Oregon State held on to beat the Tigers 4-3. Game 3 is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Hart was a guest on Monday on “McElroy and Cubelic In the morning” on WJOX out of Birmingham, Alabama, and shared his keys for Monday night’s game.

“Their offensive outburst in Game 1 was really impressive to see,” Hart said. “They scored, what, 50 runs in their regional. It’s tough to cover the offense all the way out there in that environment where the ball doesn’t carry as much. They’ve got to get great pitching and the heart of their lineup has to do damage.”

Hart noted that Auburn’s Sonny Dichiara is not “just a big dude who can hit 450-foot home runs. He can hit bad pitches and he can get big hits in high leverage situations. He can still make contact and muscle that ball into the outfield, even if it’s in on the hands, or if it’s away. He doesn’t have to barrel everything to do damage, and I think he’s going to be the key for them tonight. He’s been the key to their season all year, I don’t see it changing.”
