When the calendar turns to August, coaches everywhere start to focus on the upcoming season. But Gus Malzahn certainly won’t mind picking up another blue-chip defensive back out of the Lone Star State.

Chris Thompson Jr., a 4-star safety out of Duncanville, Texas, took to Twitter on Sunday to announce that he has pledged to the Tigers. Listed at 6-2, 199 pounds, Thompson is rated the No. 18 safety, No. 33 Texas product and No. 210 prospect overall nationally on the 247Sports Composite. His recruiting profile shows 36 scholarship offers at this time, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

Thompson’s announcement comes a day after 4-star Blinn (Brenham, Texas JUCO) CB Marco Domio committed to AU.
