The last time Cam Newton played for Auburn, the Tigers beat the Oregon Ducks for the national championship.

On Saturday night, however, it wasn’t Newton doing the damage; it was freshman Bo Nix.

Nix led Auburn on an 11-play, 60-yard scoring drive that was capped off by his 26-yard touchdown pass to Seth Williams with 26 seconds left. What an amazing come-from-behind victory, as Auburn beat the Ducks 27-21.

Newton was certainly watching, and following the win, the Panthers quarterback released an oddly funny Instagram story about the game:

There’s a back story here. Nix played on Newton’s 7-on-7 team, and the two became rather close. Nix got the opportunity to work with Newton, and it was a lifelong dream.

Nix’s reads improved over the time he worked with Newton, and it’s safe to say that the Panthers quarterback made a big impression on the young Auburn signal caller.
