Clemson earned a historic victory on Saturday afternoon against conference foe NC State.

The Tigers clinched their 800th win all-time, becoming the first ACC program to do so. Clemson is the 14th FBS program in any conference to accomplish that impressive feat.

Michigan, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Penn State, Nebraska, Georgia, Tennessee, Southern Cal, LSU and Auburn are the only programs with more wins than Clemson. Auburn entered the day with 801, meaning Clemson could move into 13th all-time before the end of this season.

The ACC’s other most high-profile programs are nowhere near Clemson in terms of all-time victories. Florida State entered Saturday in 78th place all-time with 581 wins. Miami is 46th at 658.

The next-closest ACC teams to Clemson are Virginia Tech (775), Pittsburgh (764), Georgia Tech (759), Syracuse (745) and North Carolina (732). All 5 of those programs are in the top-30 all-time for wins in college football.

For coach Dabo Swinney, this was his 172nd win as Clemson’s head coach. He became the winningest head coach in program history last fall, passing Frank Howard.

Clemson will be looking for win No. 801 next weekend against Stanford.
