Some big money is changing hands to make the 2021 Georgia-Clemson game in Charlotte possible. While the Bulldogs and Tigers are set to receive big payouts for facing off at Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers, on Sept. 4, 2021, the two schools are also cutting some sizable checks.

It was recently revealed that UGA is paying San Jose State a $1.8 million buyout to free up a spot on its 2021 nonconference schedule. It’s now being reported that Clemson will also be paying a seven-figure buyout, but the Tigers are getting off easier than the Bulldogs. According to Scott Keepfer of The Greenville News, Clemson will pay Wyoming $1.1 million. The Tigers had been scheduled to host the Cowboys on Sept. 18, 2021.

Georgia and Clemson last played in 2014, but the schools had already committed to renewing the rivalry before Tuesday’s announcement of the meeting in Charlotte. The teams were already scheduled for the 2024 Chick-fil-A Kickoff at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta as well as a home-and-home series in 2029-2030 and 2032-2033.

  • 2024 on Aug. 31 in Atlanta, GA
  • 2029 on Sept. 15 at Clemson
  • 2030 on Aug. 31 at Georgia
  • 2032 on Sept. 4 at Georgia
  • 2033 on Sept. 3 at Clemson

Georgia won the 2014 meeting in Athens, beating Clemson 45-21. UGA holds a 42-18-4 advantage over the Tigers in the all-time series.
