Clemson upset loss at Notre Dame opens Playoff discussion, fuels fan reaction, for other contenders
Clemson sent the College Football Playoff projections into the spin cycle with a lackluster effort in a 35-14 upset loss at Notre Dame on Saturday night.
DJ Uiagalelei was 27-for-39 for 217 yards with a touchdown and an interception, as the Fighting Irish built early momentum with a punt block that resulted in a touchdown. The Irish also returned a Uiagalelei interception for a touchdown on a play that went 96 yards.
The fan reaction was a mix of Tennessee fans rejoicing that the Clemson loss would take the sting out of Georgia’s win over the Vols. But it also fueled discussion of possibly 3 SEC teams in the Playoff.
Here’s a sample of the reaction:

I’ve been impressed at how physical Notre Dame has been in this game.
A loss by Clemson would be devastating for the ACC’s playoff chances, opening the door for another conference.

Clemson and Tennessee being eliminated from playoff consideration is the best thing to happen all weekend in college football.

Losing a bunch of games and then beating a suboptimal but undefeated Clemson team so we don’t have to hear about them in the playoff would be the greatest thing Notre Dame has ever done, to me personally

Losing probably knocked Clemson out of the playoffs. Losing 21-0 takes the stink off the Vols and keeps us in the top 4 or 5.

Shame the #vols couldn’t get it done in Georgia. Completely outclassed. Hopefully, they can sneak into the playoff after Michigan and Clemson drop out

Notre Dame up 28-0 on Clemson now LOL.
Can I remind you that Notre Dame lost to Marshall (5-4 Sun Belt team) and Stanford (3-6 Pac 12 team) at home?
I’m happy to type out these words: CLEMSON IS OFFICIALLY OUT OF THE PLAYOFF RACE.
Goodnight, overrated frauds!
