Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers defeated Shane Beamer’s South Carolina Gamecocks Saturday night 30-0.

In one of the country’s most fierce rivalries, Swinney and Beamer are actually friends, despite the on-field rivalry between the programs.

Swinney paid Beamer some nice compliments after the Tigers blowout victory.

“I told Shane — what you see in his team is special. I know it didn’t go their way tonight. His team believes, and they have not quit not one time all year. They’ve outscored their opponents in the 4th quarter. That says a lot about the job he’s doing, and that’s a team that’s going to get better,” Swinney said during his postgame press conference.

“He’s heading in the right direction,” Swinney said. “He’s got a team – they don’t quit. They play tough. He’s done an amazing job, to come – to get a job like that, it’s usually because things aren’t good. You don’t just flip a switch. For him to be able to come in and take this team to a bowl – they beat Auburn. They beat Florida. They’ve had some great moments throughout the year. The biggest thing is he’s kept them together and he’s kept them playing. … Outscored opponents in the fourth quarter and some of these games they’ve been down.

“They’ve just battled and battled and battled, and the game was out of hand late, but they still – to me, it says a lot about them in the end, to just compete and so I think that’s a sign of players listening to his message. He’s done a great job. I don’t have any doubt they’ll get better and better. We’re going to continue to do everything we can to have a great program. This will be a great game for years to come.”

Clemson has now won 7 in a row over South Carolina. 2013 was the last time the Gamecocks defeated the Tigers.
