One of Vanderbilt’s elite assistants with 26 years of coaching experience at the college and professional level, Dorrell was tabbed as the Commodores’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2014 — one of the jewels on Derek Mason’s first-year staff.
Dorrell jumped back to the NFL in 2008 after five years as UCLA’s head coach. He spent six years with the Miami Dolphins and Houston Texas before rejoining his college coaching brethren. During his third season with the Bruins in 2005, Dorrell was named the Pac-10 Conference’s Co-Coach of the Year.
Dorrell called plays as the offensive coordinator for Colorado from 1995 to 1998 before spending one season at Washington in 1999. Prior to earning his first — and only — head coaching gig at UCLA, Dorrell directed Denver Bronco wide receivers as an assistant coach from 2000-02.
