The 2022 NCAA Baseball College World Series Final got started in a major way Saturday, as the Ole Miss Rebels pounded the Oklahoma Sooners 10-3.

The Rebels jumped out to a big 4-0 lead, thanks to Tim Elko’s 352-foot home run to right field in the third inning. The Sooners cut the Rebels lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the 6th inning, but that’s about as close as they got.

Then, in the 8th inning, Ole Miss went back-to-back-to-back home runs off the bat of TJ McCants, Calvin Harris and Justin Bench to extend the lead to 8-2. The Sooners ended up scoring 1 more, and Ole Miss scored 2 more to make the final 10-3.

Ole Miss starter Jack Doughtery had a perfect game going into the 6th inning. It was the longest College World Series perfect game bid since the tournament expanded in 1999. He was simply fabulous. Freshman Mason Nichols replaced Doughtery and worked his way out of a bases loaded, no-out jam in the 6th inning. Two runs scored and were credited to Doughtery; however, Nichols and his unhittable slider shut the door. Josh Mallitz pitched the final 2 innings for the Rebels allowing just 1 run.

Elko racked up 4 hits in the slugfest.

Ole Miss is now 1 win away from winning a national championship. The Rebels and Sooners play at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Sixty-four teams originally entered regional play, and 32 of them were selected on an at-large basis by the Division I Baseball Committee. Sixteen national seeds hosted regional tournaments. The winners of the regional tournaments advanced to the Super Regionals. The winners of the 8 Super Regionals advanced to Omaha for the College World Series.

All 16 national seeds have now been eliminated from postseason play.
