3 SEC coaches, former assistant, among candidates at Louisville, per report
It seems Chris Mack’s days as Louisville’s head coach might be numbered, and many believe he has coached his last game for the Cardinals.
Even though the Cardinals are 11-9 overall this year and have lost 5 of their last 6 games, Louisville is still considered a prestigious job and program.
So, who could take over for Mack? One insider has current SEC coaches Bruce Pearl, Nate Oats and Will Wade on the list, along with former Kentucky assistant Kenny Payne:
Source tells me, if Chris Mack is gone as Louisville's coach, here's some names of interest:
Kenny Payne
Bruce Pearl
Will Wade
Nate OatsNot saying there's interest from Louisville, but I'm told Pearl "wants it badly."
Payne also strong interest.— Dominique Yates (@RealDYates) January 25, 2022
In the above tweet, Dominique Yates reports that Pearl wants the Louisville job “badly,” as does Payne.
Currently, Pearl has Auburn at No. 1 in the country. Oats and Wade have both had their teams ranked at different points this season, too. Would any of those guys actually leave what they’ve built at their current schools to take over a struggling program like Louisville? We’ll see what happens over the coming weeks and months.
