College basketball team fires head coach after historically embarrassing season
New Mexico State basketball has had a nightmare of a season, on and off the court. But especially off.
Finally, the university decided that enough was enough. Head basketball coach Greg Heiar was fired Tuesday after the program suspended operations for the remainder of the season due to an ongoing investigation. It was his first season with the program.
New Mexico State has fired Greg Heiar.
Not sure a coach has done a worse job all-around of leading a program in recent memory.

Goodman is harsh in the above tweet, but he’s objectively correct. Under Heiar’s watch, the program has seen one player suspected of murder, an incident where 3 players hazed a younger member of the team, a fight involving NMSU players at a football game and of course the recent suspension of play.
Not to mention, New Mexico State finished the season 9-15 and 2-10 in conference play.
