Fans, media react to Fairleigh Dickinson's incredible win over No. 1 seed Purdue
Fairleigh Dickinson is moving on to the 2nd Round!
The Knights shocked No. 1 seed Purdue Friday night, with head coach Tobin Anderson coaching circles around Purdue’s Matt Painter to secure only the 2nd 16-over-1 upset in NCAAT history. The Knights will face off against the winner of FAU/Memphis later Friday night.
This is the 3rd straight year that the Boilermakers have lost to a double digit seed in the tournament. The first lost to 13-seed North Texas in 2021, fell victim to Saint Peter’s on their way to the Elite 8 and once again Friday against Anderson’s Knights. 29 wins, a B1G title and a first-round exit. So is the brutality of March.
Fans and media reacted to Fairleigh Dickinson’s historic win immediately following the win. They didn’t let Purdue get off easily, either.
Fairleigh Dickinson was a 4-22 team last year that fired its coach and began the season ranked 355th at KenPom.
We just witnessed one of the most shocking upsets in sports history.
College basketball forever.

Where does Purdue even go from here? Even for Purdue I didn’t expect this.

I’m still not over the music city bowl. It warms my heart to see Purdue get dropped kicked out of the tournament by a 16 seed team pic.twitter.com/0sh5JqqvB4

Purdue has lost to a 16th seed, 15th seed, and 13th seed the last 3 tournamen
Purdue has lost to a 10 seed or higher 8 times in history. Tourney chokers.

The Big 10. Say hello and goodbye to delusions of grandeur.
Last year Fairleigh was ranked 348th. This year, 298th. This is how important it is to be able to shoot the 3 and have the ability to prevent them. When TN for example is able to stop the 3’s, they win, if not, they lose. Crazy game and happy for Fairleigh. No team from the NEC conference ever won a NCAA Tournament game, 0-27.
Wait!! I thought Fairleigh Dic kinson won an NCAA Tournament game.
This is why the NCAA Tournament is the best sports event there is. It never disappoints. The FDUs, Princetons and Furmans getting their shot at the big boys, and pulling a huge upset.
It’s only when your team gets beat by that high-seeded team that things get depressing. For me . . . 1997 . . . 15-seed Coppin State defeats 2-seed South Carolina 78-65.
