While it’s still the middle of the college football season, college basketball will starting sooner than later, and the SEC is expected to be one of the stronger leagues in the country.

On Sunday morning, Ken Pomeroy released his preseason KenPom rankings, and there were plenty of SEC teams in lofty positions.

The computer-based model ranks teams based on the differential between their game-by-game offensive and defensive efficiencies. It factors in strength of opponent but not tempo and is widely considered the gold standard of computer rankings in college basketball.

That said, just as is the case with human polls, there will be plenty of movement in the rankings once the games begin.

In all, there are 6 SEC teams in the initial top-30 of the KenPom rankings.

Tennessee leads the way among that group at No. 13, followed by Arkansas at No. 15, Kentucky at No. 17, Alabama at No. 19, Florida at No. 25, and Auburn at No. 28.

KenPom’s No. 1 team in his preseason rankings is Gonzaga, while Michigan, Kansas, Baylor, and Illinois round out the top 5.
