The Wooden Award has released its top 50 players on the preseason watch list for the prestigious honor, and 8 SEC players made the list.
The list is compiled by a preseason poll of national college basketball experts, the players are early front-runners for the most prestigious honors in college basketball.
Here are the 8 SEC players:
- Alabama’s Jahvon Quinerly and Jaden Shackelford
- Auburn’s Jabari Smith
- Kentucky’s Kellan Grady and TyTy Washington Jr.
- Mississippi State’s Iverson Molinar
- Tennessee’s Kennedy Chandler
- Vanderbilt’s Scotty Pippen Jr.
Players not chosen to the preseason list are still eligible for the midseason and late season lists, and the National Ballot. The National Ballot consists of 15 top players who have proven to their universities that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the Wooden Award. Nearly 1,000 voters will rank in order 10 of those 15 players when voting opens prior to the NCAA Tournament and will allow voters to take into consideration performance during early round games. The Wooden Award will be presented following the NCAA Tournament in April.
