According to Chris Vannini of The Athletic, the American Athletic Conference (AAC) plans to expand its conference.

Although AAC commissioner Mike Aresco wouldn’t be specific about teams that would be joining, reports are they are looking at teams out west like Colorado State, Boise State, Air Force and San Diego State. The Athletic is reporting that the 2 Colorado teams, CSU and Air Force, have more interest in joining the conference than Boise State and San Diego State.

As for when the expansion could be happening, Aresco said he hopes to have news in a “matter of weeks, not months.” As for the teams?

“We’ve engaged only with people that had an interest,” Aresco said.

The AAC saw 3 of its teams depart for the Big 12: Houston, UCF, and Cincinnati. So, it’s not a surprise that they are making this move now.
