The Atlantic Coastal Conference (ACC) announced Tuesday that it would be moving its headquarters from Greensboro to Charlotte, North Carolina, staying within the boundaries of the Tar Heel State but departing the city it was founded.

The move will be made next year. Greensboro mayor Nancy Vaughn was disappointed to hear the news.

“Obviously we are disappointed,” Vaughan said, via the Richmond Times-Dispatch. “But we are not surprised. I also feel like we put together an excellent package, which is one reason it took them 14 months to make a decision.”

Charlotte is a bigger city that is growing at a quick rate, becoming one of the largest in the south. The new office will be in Charlotte’s bank of America Tower.
