ACC defending champion Florida State is looking to repeat in 2024. Media members like the Seminoles’ chances of taking the conference crown.

FSU topped the ACC Preseason Poll, which was released Wednesday. The poll was conducted via a vote of a media panel of 170 members, including those who were credentialed for last week’s ACC Football Kickoff in Charlotte.

Mike Norvell’s squad led in total points (2708) and in championship picks (81). After Florida State, the next three top teams in points and first-place votes were Clemson, Miami and NC State.

Interestingly, Virginia Tech finished sixth in points, but received five first-place votes, while No. 5 Louisville was not picked to win the conference.

FSU went 12-0 in regular-season play last season before defeating Louisville to win the ACC Championship and improve to 13-0. The Seminoles were controversially left out of the College Football Playoff and finished the season 13-1 after facing Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

Clemson is looking to bounce back from a down year and play for the conference title again. The 2022 ACC champs, Clemson went 9-4 in 2023 and finished ranked No. 20 after beating Kentucky in the Gator Bowl.

The ACC has three new members in 2024, with Cal, SMU and Stanford joining the conference.

Of the newcomers, SMU is expected to fare best, checking in at No. 7 in the preseason poll. The Mustangs are ahead of North Carolina, but trail Virginia Tech, NC State, Miami, Clemson and FSU.

Cal is slotted at No. 10 in the conference poll. The Bears are behind Georgia Tech by a significant margin in points, but are ahead of Duke.

Media members expect Stanford to be in for a rough first year in the ACC. The Cardinal finished last in the preseason poll.
