Brent Key humorously corrected an assertion by ESPN’s Taylor Tannebaum that he had received a Gatorade bath following Georgia Tech’s come-from-behind 30-17 win over UCF in Friday’s Gasparilla Bowl.

The Yelllow Jackets had plenty of reasons to celebrate: not only was it their 1st bowl appearance since 2018, but Friday’s win sealed their 1st winning season since that year. They finished at 7-6 and appear to be gathering momentum under Key.

Just don’t call it Gatorade.

“It’s Powerade. We’re a Coca-Cola school,” Key told Tannebaum after the game after she stated that the Yellow Jackets head coach smelled like Gatorade.

It was a good-natured exchange, and an easy assumption to make since Gatorade is on the sidelines of most college football programs. That said, Georgia Tech using Powerade makes perfect sense given that Coca-Cola’s world headquarters is located just a short walk from campus.

In any event, Georgia Tech looks to be on a little bit of an upswing under Key, and Friday marked another step in the right direction.
